Hillary Clinton: Scorpio Under Control

Hillary Clinton is a Scorpio, a sign of emotional extremes. Some Scorpios flaunt their powerful feelings, but most keep them under wraps. The presidential candidate may need to loosen the reins, though, and expose more of herself to gain the support she’s seeking from the American public.
It should come as no surprise that Hillary Clinton is a Scorpio. This intense, emotionally powerful sign usually provokes strong reactions, both positive and negative. The Senator from New York, born on October 26, 1947 at 8 p.m. in Chicago, has the Sun, communicative Mercury and sociable Venus all in watery Scorpio, where feelings run deep and are often hidden below the surface. Hillary is perceived as a passionate person by her supporters and an ice queen by her detractors. Regardless of what is shown on the outside, she is ruled by her emotions as much as by her considerable intellect. Her Moon, the primary astrological symbol of instinct and habits, is in Pisces, another water sign. However, Pisces has a diffuse quality that’s very different than Scorpio’s intensity. Hillary’s Moon is in a tense 90-degree square with unconventional Uranus, adding a sense of distance or separation that can override Pisces’ usual compassionate side. She is a very complex woman who is probably not very much at ease within herself, a contrast to her husband who makes people feel comfortable thanks to his Moon in easygoing Taurus.
Competence, not cuddliness, is Hillary’s strength. Her Mercury squares serious Saturn, indicating a steel trap mind that carefully calculates every statement before speaking. This mental power is helpful for analyzing and solving difficult problems, but reduces spontaneity. Venus, the planet of love, is also square Saturn in her chart, representing a romantic pattern based more on security than stimulation. And even though her Mars, the planet of action, is in outgoing Leo (Bill’s Sun sign), its close conjunction with controlling Pluto and Saturn buries its youthful exuberance under the weight of responsibility and self-control. The proximity of punishing Pluto and Saturn to Mars often can leave her feeling that there is no room for mistakes, adding to an image of rigidity.
Still, Hillary’s Pisces Moon forms a harmonious 120-degree trine with generous Jupiter, reflecting idealism and optimism flowing through the seams of her tightly monitored personality. The irony may be that her biggest mistake in courting voters is her unwillingness to reveal more of herself. There’s plenty of vulnerability in her Pisces Moon, something we can feel at times, but armored by Scorpio’s strict behavior management, it’s a bit like a little princess who wants to play but is not permitted to do so by her overly protective guards. Perhaps it’s the gap between Hillary’s Piscean sensitivity and Scorpionic control that is too great for her to traverse, so that if she ever allowed herself to crack a little in public, she would never be able to put the pieces back together. Yet, it is this unseen softness that may need to be exposed for the voters to open their hearts to her.
